A feast for the eyes: the wooded park and the private bamboo grove
It is said that Eugène Mazel, founder of the famous Bambouseraie d'Anduze, took the precaution of offering wealthy landowners in the surrounding area some of the bamboo he imported from Asia by sea, in case planting it failed on their land. It's true that at the time, shipping costs for bamboo from China or the surrounding region were not free. This would explain why private bamboo groves are found on many estates, in Lasalle, Moissac, Mialet, and of course Saint Jean du Gard... And it turns out that the Domaine de Cabrières has had its own bamboo grove for so long that no one knows its origins anymore.
